    NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course

    Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.

    This course includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

    Tactical Shotgun

    The Tactical Shotgun Fundamentals course is designed to introduce responsible gun owners to the safe handling, proper maintenance and effective use of a tactical Shotgun and to bring awareness to the usefulness of the platform in the context of civilian home defense and defense of life. Classroom instruction covers topics such as basic shotgun nomenclature and function, cleaning and maintenance, and accessorizing the tactical shotgun, while live-range instruction will provide students with an understanding of how to safely and effectively operate a Tactical Shotgun, confirm zero, understand shot pattern, holdover, and what ammo you will use and how that can affect your shot pattern or zero. You will engage in practical and cumulative drills.

    Instructor-led range time including safety essentials, confirmation of zero, and use/operation of a tactical shotgun; students will work on drills that incorporate dry-fire and live fire with kinesthetic alignment, shot pattern (and the application of holdover), along with the balance of speed and precision shooting. This shooting course is a high round count on ammunition.

    The Objective of the NRA Members' Council Program shall be the protection of our citizens rights as enumerated in the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights by functioning as part of a coordinated team to

    • Educate and foster public awareness of the "Right to Keep and Bear Arms" ar articulated in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
    • Increase the membership of the NRA
    • Advise, participate and cordinate with NRA staff regarding NRA programs, activities, local, government, candidates, and issues.
    • Provide Firearms Safety and Self-Protection training to the local community.
    • Protect our Hunting Heritage

    NRA Rifle Instructor Course

    This 16-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Rifle Shooting course.

    Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a perquisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.
    Description: Course is presented in two parts: Basic Instructor Training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Rifle Shooting Instructor Candidate Packet.
