6 8:30 am: NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course 8:30 am: NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course 8:30 am – 5:00 pm January 6, 2026 The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course consisting of instruction and a hands-on practical portion at the range under the guidance and supervision of an NRA Certified Instructor. This course is eight hours and is intended for all adults regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation. Some of the topics in the course include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, selecting and storing a pistol, the fundamentals of shooting and pistol inspection and maintenance. During the training of the course, an NRA Certified Instructor will validate comprehension and application of gun safety rules; range protocol; proper handling, loading and unloading procedures; application of pistol shooting fundamentals; stable shooting positions; live fire; and a final shooting qualification. 12 8:30 am: NRA Pistol Instructor Course 8:30 am: NRA Pistol Instructor Course 8:30 am – 5:30 pm January 12, 2026 – January 13, 2026 This 16-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, promoting, and teaching NRA’s Basic Pistol Shooting course. Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a prerequisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire that will be emailed to candidates after they register for the course. The first part of day two will be live fire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises (shooting requirements and manipulation of firearm to clear malfunctions). Description: The course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training, and discipline-specific instructor training.
