8:30 am: NRA Basic Handgun8:30 am: NRA Basic Handgun – Course Goal: To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. Some of the topics in the course includes; gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, selecting and storing a pistol, the fundamentals of shooting and pistol inspection and maintenance. During the training of the course, an NRA Certified Instructor will validate comprehension and application of gun safety rules; range protocol; proper handling, loading, and unloading procedures; application of pistol shooting fundamentals; stable shooting positions; live fire; and final shooting qualification. |

This 16-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, promoting, and teaching NRA’s Basic Pistol Shooting course. Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a prerequisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire that will be emailed to candidates after they register for the course. The first part of day two will be live fire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises (shooting requirements and manipulation of firearm to clear malfunctions). Description: The course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training, and discipline-specific instructor training. The USCCA’s AR-15 Fundamentals course is designed to introduce responsible gun owners to the safe handling, proper maintenance and effective use of AR-15 style rifles and to bring awareness to the usefulness of the platform in the context of civilian home defense and defense of life. Classroom instruction covers topics such as basic AR-15 nomenclature and function, cleaning and maintenance, and accessorizing the AR-15, while live-range instruction will provide students with an understanding of how to safely and effectively operate an AR-15, confirm zero, and engage in practical and cumulative drills. |
